Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba says although the economy is showing signs of recovery, it is still growing slowly.

Speaking at the 54th ANC National Elective Conference, he highlighted a number of key issues that needed to be urgently addressed to turn the economy around.

He says government’s immediate challenge is to end to policy uncertainty.

“We will take the necessary tough decisions to continue fiscal consolidation and stabilisation as we move towards the 2018 budget in February. This will stabilise public debt in the coming years and ensure macro- economic stability. However fiscal consolidation is not the alternate solution. The solution is to re- ignite growth.”

Meanwhile Gigaba says regulatory bodies will be investigating various aspects of the Steinhoff matter, looking at possible fraud, corruption and misconduct.
