Economic recovery plan includes rooting out corruption: Gordhan

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says the economic recovery plan that President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled on Friday, includes rooting out corruption and restoring good governance at state-owned enterprises.

Gordhan says it is also important to strengthen public institutions because of the significant role they play in the economy.

“The SOE’s have particularly been big investors, especially Transnet and Eskom. Although the scale of investment has gone down because big power plants are not being built at the same rate as they were before, we are still having about R360 billion being spent over a three-year period. Secondly, we need to make sure that we create efficiency in the economy in the kind of infrastructure services that are provided.”
