This is the second time South Africa is playing host to the BRICS Summit.

More than 1 000 delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will gather at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Wednesday for the 10th BRICS Summit.

The Heads of State of the BRICS countries will first attend the Business Forum to discuss strategic issues.

The 2018 summit will focus on the slowdown of global economic growth and how United States policies have affected emerging markets.

This is the second time South Africa will host the summit.

Department of International Relations and Corporation (Dirco) Deputy Minister Luwellyn Landers says: “South Africa has proposed the following for adoption at the summit. One; the establishment of a working group on Peacekeeping and two, the establishment of a Vaccine Research Centre in collaboration with BRICS’ vaccine innovation and; the establishment of the BRICS Gender and Women’s forum.”
