A tribunal on economic crimes in South Africa has begun at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
It will focus first on economic crimes committed during Apartheid, then on the post-Apartheid Arms Deal and finally on current State Capture.
The five-day hearings are funded by Non-governmental Organisations.
One of the panel members, former Judge Zak Yacoob, says they will make and release their findings at the end of the hearings.
He says: “This is not a court of law and we are not here as judges. This is a tribunal, it has no legal standing or authority.”
“It is hoped that by the time the work of the Tribunal is concluded it will be able to demonstrate a degree of moral authority for the people of SA,” adds Yacoob.
