A 28-year-old suspected serial rapist and his 23-year-old girlfriend have been arrested in Qumbu in the Eastern Cape.

It is alleged that the male suspect from Ncameni village, used social media platform Facebook to invite women to Qumbu.

He is facing murder and rape charges.

The victims were from Alice, Duncan Village in East London, Tabankulu and Mount Fletcher. The man’s girlfriend faces charges of possession of stolen property such as bags, clothing and cell phones. Police believe the items belonged to the victims.

Police spokesperson Khaya Tonjeni says the suspects will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is alleged that the suspect invited women on Facebook posting a fake profile and a profile picture; he would then arrange to meet the victims in Qumbu sending them money via money market from two major retail outlets.

Once the victim arrives in Qumbu he would tell them that he is busy and that he will send someone else to fetch them from the pickup point, however, the suspect himself will pick the victims up pretending to be someone else and will thereafter lure the victims to Ngcakuleni fields where he will rape and sometimes kill them.
