A 15-year-old grade nine learner from Arthur Mfebe High School has been laid to rest at Chris Hani East after losing his life allegedly at the hands of his fellow schoolmates at Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape.

Two groups of school boys had engaged in a fight inside the school premises of the Msebe Senior Secondary School.

The Department of Education spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima says one of their initiatives in curbing such incidents is to take young men who are in prison to educate learners in schools about the repercussions of engaging in criminal activities.

“As the department, we have adopted a multi-stakeholder approach where we will be working with police local traditional leaders and other stakeholders to make sure we nib out this thing,” said Mtima.

He added: “ We are hosting children who are convicted prisoners, who serve their time now are rehabilitated to come and talk to them so that they can understand that crime does not pay, once people get criminal record it will be impossible for them to get an appointment in the near future,”

According to reports, a ninth-grade student who was tragically hacked was apparently involved in a factional dispute that started in a nearby neighborhood.

The child was assaulted on Tuesday in front of other classmates and teachers. The incident was still under investigation, according to the department.

The school has been closed to kids since the tragedy. Some students who saw the attack said that the attackers entered the school’s grounds and hacked the victim to death.
