Eastern Cape school removes learner over ‘traditional healing’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The removal of a learner who is a trainee traditional healer from a Ngcobo school hostel in the Eastern Cape, has sparked outrage from traditionalists and traditional healers.

This after the learner from Nyanga High School was removed from the hostel for allegedly using her ancestral gifts to heal one sick learner.

She allegedly used water and a match stick concoction, much to the disapproval of school management. Her family is not happy and wants government to intervene.

Her mother, Zingisa Magida explains: “Most of the traditional healers are illiterate because of this problem because they do not survive very well only with this traditional healing. They need education so they were deprived their chance of being educated because of this misunderstanding of these religions.”
