The Eastern Cape Health Department has opened a College of Emergency Care in Gqeberha in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela University.
The multi-million-rand college situated next to the Dora Nginza Hospital offers various qualifications in emergency medical care.
Health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth says the American Heart Association has accredited the college.
“As the Department of Health, we are looking at having more advanced support in terms of our EMS services, says Meth .
“We will be using this college, which I accredited. And the quality of education we are offering is in line with the medical emergency care services, so we will be offering those,” adds Meth.
The college offers courses including Rescue courses, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Essential Skills for Maternity and Obstetric Emergencies.
