Concerns over the 3rd wave in South Africa

The R80 million facility consists of 10 ICU beds and a 90-bed general ward.

“We’ve been working on this strategy focusing on now more on the vaccination to try to mitigate the disastrous effects of the third wave that we are seeing now, we are seeing the resurgence of numbers particularly in the Nelson Mandela Bay where there are biggest populations as well. We are trying to make sure that we disturb the spread of this virus to other people, we do not want outbreaks,” says Premier Oscar Mabuyane.

Mabuyane says they are trying to contain the virus, while also strengthening follow-ups in terms of  COVID-19 testing and tracing of cases.

On Friday,  the Department of Health recorded 3 141 new COVID-19 infections, taking the total number to 1 608 393.

The department also recorded 112 new COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 55 124.
