The police in the Eastern Cape police are searching for three awaiting trail prisoners who escaped from police custody at the Elliotdale Police Station.
Police say the escapees locked the two police guards inside the cells.
An intensive search has not yielded any success as yet.
The escapees are known as Bonginkosi Ndevu, Akhona Paji and Mzuwonke Coli. They were facing serious charges including rape, murder and armed robbery.
Police have requested anyone with information that may lead to the re-arrest of the men to contact their nearest police station.
