A Dutch tourist has drowned at Wilderness beach in the Western Cape, one of three drownings reported in the province on Chistmas Day.

National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the man was in the sea with two other family members who were all caught in rip currents.

The other two made it safely out of the water and were not injured.

Lambinon says the Department of Tourism is assisting the deceased man’s wife and his two daughters.

In other drownings on Christmas Day, the body of an eight-year-old girl was recovered from the water after she was reported missing.

In Strand near Cape Town, the body of an unidentified man was retrieved from the surf.
