A number of revellers at New Year’s festivals in Durban and surrounding areas say the decline in COVID-19 infections, hospitalisations and related deaths give them hope that they will be able to rebuild their lives this year.

Durban has this year witnessed another decline of patrons attending festivities on New Year’s Day due to COVID-19 restrictions despite the midnight curfew being lifted.

Exterior events can only be attended by two thousand people.

Many chose to enjoy themselves at Umhlanga Rocks.

Meanwhile, businesses also hoped for a better 2022.

This after the July unrest and COVID-19 caused many business to close shops.

Many people lost their jobs, while some businesses are still trying to recover.

The police and the eThekwini Metro police also conducted roadblocks on Florida Road in Durban, a popular venue for revellers.
