Thousands of athletes are expected to descend onto KwaZulu-Natal for the upcoming Comrades Marathon. Race Director Rowyn James says the marathon takes place this coming weekend and is a ‘down run’ from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

James says this most popular marathon and an internationally recognised race will begin their run from outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and ends at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

James says they are expecting more than 19 000 athletes to participate in the ultimate human race.

“The race is the second biggest number entries we’ve have in history of the race. Roughly 20 thousands and will register to come through and get goodie bags and all of that roughly 19 thousands will start. As organisers we are working on 19 thousands.”

Meanwhile James says some sections of the route has been changed to accommodate the new finish line at the Moses Mabhida stadium.
