Reading Time: < 1 minute

A 43-year-old police officer stationed at Umbumbulu police station south of Durban has been shot and killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It is alleged that he was attacked by three unknown suspects.

This is a second police officer to be killed in less than two months after a female police officer was shot dead in Cator Manor on her way to work.

Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says UMbumbulu police have opened a case of murder.

He says it is alleged that the officer was shot by three suspects shooting from their vehicle.

The suspects fled the scene thereafter and nothing was taken from the police officer.

He says there have been no arrests made.

“The acting provincial commissioner General Langa has instructed detective team to pull up information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.”
