Thousands of spectators flocked to the mining town of Dundee in KwaZulu-Natal for the Dundee-July this weekend.
Isichomane came up trumps in the horse race, just ahead of defending champion, Nxakanxaka.
Spectators were also treated to a range of festivities including fashion and dance.
The 13th leg of the rural horse racing event was even bigger and more competitive this year.
For 17-year old jockey, Nkosinami Lujiva, it was a day he’ll never forget. He entered the race for the first time, and stunned when his horse defeated the title defender.
Fashion lovers were not left out. KwaZulu-Natal designers show-cased their crafts.

The race is unique for keeping the competition more traditional and rural. It prefers standard-bred horses, who trot, as opposed to gallop, like in other horse races.
The KwaZulu-Natal government is excited about the noticeable growth of the event. Its positive turnout also boosts the local economy.
This year’s record-breaking stake of one million rand saw most jockeys receiving more money. The popular event is expected to be even bigger next year.
