Due diligence was followed in selection of mayoral candidates: ANC Free State

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State says due diligence was followed in the selection process of candidates for the mayoral position in the Mangaung Metro.

This comes after the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) handed over a memorandum to the party saying the process was flawed as some names were removed from the list.

However, provincial ANC convenor Mxolisi Dukwana says they will consider the issues Sanco has raised.

Dukwana says, “We want to actually bring back the culture where our members part take in decisions, in making sure that they govern the city and also take charge of their own. So appreciate that, but we also explained to them the process that has been agreed upon and we have not done anything wrong in terms of dealing with the process.”

Mangaung council

The ANC in Mangaung Metro managed to retain control of the council during the Local Government Elections, this is despite the service delivery problems raised by residents.

The party said it was not worried about the decline in the number of its council seats.

The ANC lost seven seats and dropped to 51 as compared to the 58 it had obtained in the 2016 municipal elections.
