Drought conditions remain serious in Central Karoo

Authorities say the drought conditions in the Central Karoo remains serious, despite recent rainfall in the area.

The Western Cape Department of Local government says the province’s dam levels are currently at 66,1 %.

While some farms in the Nelspoort and Murraysburg areas, have reported rainfall of up to 40 millimetres over the past weekend, the agricultural sector remains under strain.

“In Beaufort West we had reports of between 12mm and 14mm of rainfall but in the South Western region the situation continues to remain very serious, Merweville, Leeu Gamka, is where the agriculture sector continues to take sever strain due to the ongoing drought.”
