Several dozen vocal protesters gathered at one of New York’s major transit hubs to call for the release of a 17-year old Palestinian activist who is being held in military detention for slapping an Israeli soldier.

Ahed Tamimi was arrested when Israeli forces raided her home in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh on December 19th.

Ahed’s confrontation with the soldier happened outside her home where weekly protests against Israeli settlement activity have been held for years.

This is also after her 15 year old cousin was struck in the head by an Israeli rubber bullet.

Her actions and subsequent arrest have turned her into a symbol of Palestinian struggle for freedom.
