Dolphins eye consistency ahead of Titans trip

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Dolphins captain Keshav Maharaj believes that the team which plays the most consistent cricket will be crowned Momentum One-Day Cup champions come the end of the season.

The Durban team are preparing to play their second match of the season when they travel to the Titans on Friday.

The match is a repeat of last year’s final, which was comfortably won by the Centurion-based team.

However, the champions began this season with defeat to the Lions, while the Dolphins beat the Knights at Kingsmead last week. Maharaj, who played a starring role in that game, feels that only consistency will satisfy him and his team.

Maharaj showed his worth in that opening 93-run win in Durban when he scored a career-best 43 and also claimed two for 19 with the ball.

The spinner has not been known for his exploits with the bat through his career, but this innings suggested that he is becoming a more accomplished batsman too.

It came after he also scored a Test best 71 for the Proteas a few weeks earlier and the 29-year-old admits he was working hard to improve his all-round game.

While the wicket in Durban was slow and low for the showdown against the Knights, the Dolphins can expect a vastly different track in Centurion.

The home of the Titans usually has a quick track with plenty on offer for the seamers and Maharaj says they will need to be able to adjust on any track if they want to be a more challenging team. – Report by Thahir Asmal
