The applicants are challenging the legitimacy of the Provincial Executive Committee led by Oscar Mabuyane arguing they were elected without a quorum and correct credentials.

Disgruntled African National Congress (ANC) Free State members say they are investigating the validity of the Provincial General Council (PGC) which was held on Tuesday.

That PGC endorsed former AU Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the preferred party president.

The disgruntled group, mostly supporters of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, won a court order on Wednesday interdicting the Free State ANC provincial elective conference, which was scheduled to start on Friday in Parys.

The lawyer representing disgruntled party members, Hanno Bekker, says, “We are in the process of communicating with the secretary general to request the attendance register and once we receive it, then we can determine the way forward. We cannot at this point and time certify a timeline as to how long it’s gonna take for us to decide on a course of action.”
