Discussions around De Lille “supended”: DA FedEx

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The DA’s Federal Executive says it has suspended discussions around the future of Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille pending legal advice.

The party’s senior leaders have been meeting in Johannesburg to discuss De Lille’s fate.

Earlier this week, she provided reasons why she should remain in office after the DA’s caucus in the City of Cape Town passed a motion of no confidence in her last week.

In a statement, the FedEx says it will resume discussions on De Lille’s political future early next week, once it has received legal advice.

The FedEx says it has lengthy deliberations considering all elements of the matter.

However, De Lille subsequently sent legal papers advising the FedEx that she intends approaching the courts.

She has been unhappy about the make up of some if its members. Discussions also centered on the fact that over 70% of the DA caucus members in Cape Town have lost confidence in De Lille as Mayor.

It is also claimed that she repeatedly breached the Code of Conduct for Councillors as well as the Constitution of the DA, brought the party into disrepute, and breached the conditions of her suspension from party activities.
