Dischem workers demand recognition of union

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hundreds of workers at pharmaceutical retailer, Dischem, have downed tools.

They are demanding the recognition of their union, the National Union Of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW), which is affiliated to the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU).

The workers picketed on Wednesday outside the company’s head office in Midrand. The union is also demanding bonuses.

The union claims that last month management punished those who joined NUPSAW by withholding their year end bonuses.

The JSE-listed company recorded a 14% increase in revenue to R10 billion between March and August last year.
