The BRICS summit will take place in Sandton.

Department of International Relations says it is pleased with South Africa’s level of preparedness to host the 10th BRICS summit.

China’s President Xi Jinping and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi are among those due to attend the summit which will start in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Since taking office, President Xi has overseen efforts to expand Chinese influence in Africa.

International Relations Deputy Minister, Luwellyn Landers addressed the media at the Sandton Convention Centre, north of Johannesburg.

Landers says SA has proposed the following for adoption at the summit: 1. The establishment of the working group on peacekeeping. 2. The establishment of a vaccine research centre. 3. The establishment of a BRICS gender and women’s forum. 4. BRICS economic partnership towards the pursuit of inclusive growth and advancing the 4th industrial revolution. 5. The establishment of a BRICS tourism track of cooperation.
