Dignitaries, family members honour Sharpeville victims

Several dignitaries including ministers, MEC’s, family members of those killed during the Sharpeville Massacre and survivors, have arrived at the Phelindaba cemetery near Sharpeville in the Vaal.

They are at the cemetery to honour those who died during the incident, which followed an anti-pass law march on the 21st of March 1960.

It’s being commemorated on Human Rights Day.

Ministers including Nathi Mthethwa as well as Zweli Mkhize are at the Phelindaba grave site, as the nation remembers all those who lost their lives on this day in 1960 which is now known is Human Rights Day.

At least 69 people were killed on the 21st of March, and their identical resting places can be seen draped with flowers.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Sharpeville Memorial Site.
