‘Deputy President appointment is Ramaphosa’s prerogative’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has reiterated that the President of the country and the party, Cyril Ramaphosa, is under no obligation to include the party’s NEC in making a decision about the position of Deputy President of the country.

He was speaking outside the party’s NEC meeting being held in Irene outside Pretoria. The party’s top decision making structure is expected to consider a range of issues – including the cabinet composition and deputy presidency.

Magashule made it clear that the appointment of someone as deputy president is the prerogative of President Ramaphosa alone.

“It’s not an NEC matter. The president will discuss with us and various structures and alliance partners. It is not a matter for the NEC or the NEC which decides and discusses the ministers and who becomes what. But we will engage with the president.”
