Deputy Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize to be laid to rest on Saturday

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Professor Hlengiwe Mkhize, will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Fourways Memorial, north of Johannesburg.

She died last week at the age of 69. Her family confirmed that the late Deputy Minister was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017.

Mkhize has held various positions in government including Minister of Home Affairs and Ambassador to the Netherlands.

She has been accorded a Special Official Funeral Category 2 and President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy.

Earlier this week, Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ayanda Dlodlo, praised the late Mkhize for her contribution to the liberation of South Africa.

Mkhize was the Commissioner and Chairperson of the Reparations and Rehabilitation Committee of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission from 1995 until 2003.

Dlodlo paid tribute to Mkhize during her memorial service in Randburg, Johannesburg.
