The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in KwaZulu-Natal has extended its condolences to the Maskandi music fraternity following the untimely death of Maskandi artist Scebi “Inkos’yamagcokama” Dlamini.
Dlamini and his stage crew member, Gamu Mchunu were killed in a road crash in Richards Bay on the province’s north coast on Sunday morning.
The award winning artist had produced more than 20 albums, Arts and Culture MEC Mthomuhle Khawula said that Dlamini’s music has made a lasting impact on the industry.
“He was the first one to respond to our call of live performances in a theatre at the playhouse and he did it successfully.”

ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal also extended its condolences to the Dlamini and Mchunu families.
In a statement , the party says KZN lost talented sons, their music and memories will continue to live on.
“ActionSA KwaZulu–Natal is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of renowned Maskandi artist Inkos’yamagcokama, following a motor vehicle accident near Richards Bay in the early hours of Sunday, 9 August 2026. ActionSA is equally saddened by the passing of Gumu “Gupta” Mchunu, who was travelling with Inkos’yamagcokama and members of his stage crew. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mchunu family during this extremely difficult time. KwaZulu-Natal has lost talented sons whose contribution to our province and cultural heritage will not be forgotten. Their music and memories will continue to live on.”
