Department of Correctional Services to launch COVID-19 vaccination drive for inmates and officials

The Justice and Correctional Services Department will on Tuesday launch a vaccination drive roll-out programme for inmates and officials at the Medium C Prison in Johannesburg. The department’s Spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri says the programme will be rolled out at 90 other centres across the country.

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola and the Acting Minister of Health Mamoloko Khubayi-Ngubani launch will officially launch the Correctional Services Vaccination Roll-Out Programme.

More vaccination sites opened countrywide to provide for growing demand

Phiri says the Department of Correctional Services has prioritized the vaccination of both the officials and that of the general public to ensure their protection.

“Outbreaks of COVID-19 in Correctional Facilities have spread to communities and inmates hence the to vaccinate both the officials and the inmates. The Department of Correctional Services remains committed to create a safer working environment for all its officially and the vaccination program will certainly contribute towards that.

Meanwhile, South Africa has recorded 7 209 new coronavirus infections in the past 24-hour cycle, taking the total number of cases to 2 302 304.
