Demonstrators spray paint “murder” outside Russian embassy in DC

Graffiti on the grounds of the entryway to the Russian embassy in Washington, D.C. spelled out “murder” as a handful of demonstrators gathered on Thursday to send a message to Russia’s President about invading Ukraine.

A woman held a sign reading “Hands Off Ukraine,” after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war in a pre-dawn televised address.

The assault brought a catastrophic end to weeks of fruitless diplomatic efforts by Western leaders to avert war.

The Russian attack has included more than 160 missile launches by Russia so far, including short-range ballistic missiles and medium-range missiles, cruise missiles, and surface-to-air missiles.

On Thursday, the United States imposed sanctions on Russia in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine, targeting its two biggest banks and members of the elite in new measures as Washington warned more action could come.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on Ukrainians to defend their country and said arms would be given to anyone prepared to fight.
