Deaths of mine workers is a crime against humanity: Mathunjwa

Reading Time: < 1 minute

AMCU president Joseph Mathunjwa has described the deaths of mine workers as a crime against humanity.

He was reacting to news of the death of yet another mine worker at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Driefontein mine west of Gauteng.

The miner’s death brings to twenty-one the number of mine workers who’ve lost their lives at Sibanye Stillwaters mines in 2018.

Sibanye says the miner entered a scraper path and was caught by the scraper.

Mathunjwa says president Ramaphosa needs to get involved.

“It seems as if these deaths at Sibanye cannot be stopped hence we are still calling for the state president as the head of the government and the leader of the nation, they need to take serious corrective measures to curb these deaths at Sibanye.”
