Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former Lesotho deputy Prime Minister Mothetjoa Metsingi, has confirmed that he has fled to South Africa where he’s report to be seeking political asylum.

Tensions have been building in Lesotho since the recent arrest of the former Defence minister, Tseliso Mokhosi, over the killing of a policeman in 2016.

Speaking on Morning Live, Metsing says he has fled the country after receiving death threats.

“I have been in and out of South Africa because of the threat I was seeing. But I can officially say I have left the country. It was only on Tuesday, when I left the country at night after receiving a tip off that there is a convoy of police coming to arrest me.”
