Deadline looms for workers on Eskom wage offer

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Eskom hopes more workers will report for duty on Monday to help bring stability to its power stations.

There been threats of intimidation at several power-stations as the wage negotiations between Eskom and workers unions the National Union of Mineworkers, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and Solidarity continue.

Workers have until this Wednesday to respond to Eskom’s latest wage offer which includes a R10 000 once off payment to workers who fall under the bargaining unit.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the risk of load-shedding remains but they will continue to mitigate against it.

“It’s going to take at least 30-days for us to be sure that we have done everything that we needed to do to make sure our plants are operating optimally especially after this industrial action that we have seen.  But it does not necessarily mean that there will be load-shedding for 30-days.  What it means is that the risk of load-shedding will be there but we will continue to manage it.”
