Patricia de Lille has been at loggerheads with the party in recent months over governance issues.

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has until the close of business on Wednesday to make written submissions to the Democratic Alliance’s Federal Executive on why she should remain in office.

This comes after the party’s caucus in the city council voted for her removal through a secret ballot last week.

De Lille has been at loggerheads with the party in recent months over governance issues. Fedex deputy chairperson, Natasha Mazzone says they will scrutinise De Lille’s submissions this weekend before deciding on the way forward.

“The DA may decide to accept her submissions and to not allow the motion of no confidence against her to stand. In which case they would recommend remedial action to repair the damaged relationship between her and the caucus. Alternatively the Fedex may find that her reasons given are not good enough and therefore the motion of no confidence stands. If that is the case we would give the Mayor 48 hours in which to resign, failing which her membership would cease.”
