The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has released a copy of the voters’ roll for inspection on its website.

Political parties and members of the public have until March 8 to raise objections or any irregularity that they may find on the interim voters’ roll.

The commission itself has until March 14 to investigate and rectify all the complaints if they were authentic and notify those who have objected.

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says: “What is unique with the 2019 general elections is the fact that we have introduced a structured opportunity for the voters’ roll to be inspected and for members of the public, political parties, interest groups to raise objections to the voters roll before it is certified.”

“Those objections will be considered by the commission and determined and once they’re determined the voters roll will be certified, and once its certified it will be used for the elections as it is.”

Mamabolo said the voters’ roll would be certified and closed on March 18.

President Cyril Ramaphosa declared that the 6th general elections will be held on May 8, 2019 and stated the day will be a public holiday.
