De Villiers satisfied with performance

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Proteas’ stand in captain, AB de Villiers, is satisfied with his side’s performance after their massive win over Zimbabwe in their one-off day-night cricket Test match in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

The Proteas were too strong for their neighbours and ended the four day test match inside two days.

The winning margin was an innings and 120 runs. The Zimbabweans were bowled out for 60 runs in the first innings and for 121 in their second.

This was in reply to the home team’s score of 309 for nine.

De Villiers says the match was ideal preparation for the series against India next month.

“I think our batters worked very hard on a wicket that seamed around the entire innings and sped up a little bit in the evening and we started losing wickets. From the bowling point of view it was to get them to follow on so the guys can get few overs and bowl about 70 odd over consecutively. I think the guys got some nice results. I think it was a good outing for us.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe captain, Graeme Cremer, says they lost to a better team in tough conditions.

He was speaking after the match ended.

“Definitely it moved around a lot under the lights. Today it still seamed a bit. You know they were just better than us and we got blown away by their seamers. They bowled very hard and hit the right areas and that was enough in this wicket, we did not adjust to them.”
