Reading Time: < 1 minute

The High Court in Cape Town is currently hearing arguments on why Patricia de Lille should stay on in her position as Mayor until her urgent application to challenge the DA’s decision to terminate her membership from the party is heard again in two weeks time.

The matter was postponed in chambers this morning and will be heard on the 25th of May by three judges. De Lille is challenging the DA’s decision to terminate her membership from the party and consequently to relieve her of the mayoral postion. The DA says De Lille publicly declared her intention to resign from the party on a radio station. Her legal counsel, Advocate Johan de Waal has argued that a clause, recently adopted by the DA, is inconsistent with the rules of natural justice stipulated in its constitution..

The decision was taken by all parties concerned.
