Ousted Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille  says she will return to the High Court on Friday to challenge the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) termination of her membership of the party.

The party’s Federal Executive made the announcement in Cape Town earlier on Tuesday.

The announcement follows a lengthy battle between the DA and De Lille over allegations of maladministration in the city council.

The party expects the Deputy Mayor Ian Neilson to become the acting mayor.

De Lille says the DA is applying a clause on cessation of membership.

She says, “They have tried to break me so many times, but I will never succumb to their bullying. The party has forced me to return to the courts, which I will do on Friday the 11th of May. My lawyers have sent the court papers. I will show you on Friday that this so-called automatic cessation clause is unconstitutional, and it is unfairly applied to me.”
