Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has dismissed claims that she used her power to influence the appointment of certain area directors in the city.

Reports suggest De Lille told former city manager Achmat Ebrahim to exclude the minimum years of experience as one of the requirements for those applying for the positions.

This was allegedly done to make way for certain candidates that were pre-selected.

One of them is allegedly Alesia Bosman, the wife of City Director for Safety, Richard Bosman.

De Lille says the allegations were investigated by a special commission and they are baseless.

“There’s also not a finding by the Commission that any friendship or relationship played any part in the appointment process. So, we have to look at what are the findings of the Commissioner in this matter. The allegations that the leadership of the City interfered in the process is therefore not true,” says De Lille.
