Reading Time: < 1 minute

Concern has been raised by some educators, parents and governing bodies regarding the Basic Education Department’s planned Life Orientation curriculum that will be implemented in 2020.
On Wednesday Morning Live spoke to the Association of School Governing Bodies and the Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysers Unie or SAOU who voiced their concerns.

The department says its disappointed the public has been misled with wrong information about the subject matter.

Elijah Mhlanga, who is the spokesperson for the Department told Morning Live on SABC what the Life Orientation curriculum is. “The first thing we would like to correct is that there is no new curriculum. The second thing is that we are implementing next year which is also not correct. That has been at the core of the confusion and panic that has been taking place. All we are doing is we are piloting scripted lesson plans which are meant to empower teachers and improve the way they have been delivering life orientation as a subject at schools.”
