Day Zero will now arrive in May

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The City of Cape Town has predicted that Day Zero will now arrive on May the 11th and not April the 16th as was initially thought.

Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson says this is due to a decline in agricultural water use.

He says many agricultural users in the supply system have used up the water allocated to them as per agreement with the Water and Sanitation Department.

Neilson says agricultural usage is likely to drop further over the next few weeks. He says the agriculture sector draws about 30% of the water in the supply scheme which should fall to 15% in March and 10% in April.

Neilson has called on consumers to continue to save water with dam levels standing at just over 25%.
