Day 21 of lockdown: Citizens express mixed reactions

Reading Time: 2 minutes

South Africans have expressed mixed reactions in what was meant to be the final day of the country’s national COVID-19 lockdown.

Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced an extension to the initial 21-day lockdown as a measure to mitigate the resurgence of coronavirus infections.

Since then, citizens have had to heed the call to stay home for longer and adhere to stringent regulations to avoid social interaction.

Thursday marks a full 21 days of the lockdown period.

Others are happy to have survived until this point and are thankful to have spent time with their families.

Other citizens, however, have expressed dismay over having to endure for an additional two weeks.

The beginning of ‘Lockdown Season 2’

As the country moves into the next two weeks of social distancing meant to end on the 30th of April, some South Africans say they are bracing themselves for what they term “season 2” of the lockdown.

Other citizens have made a plea for everyone to abide by lockdown rules to avoid another extension.

South Africa currently has 2506 confirmed coronavirus cases and 34 recorded deaths.

As the lockdown continues, other citizens have also lauded efforts made by government to tackle COVID-19 in the country.
