The Isuzu Southern Kings might soon have to look for a new coach. The franchise has confirmed that a process of engagement between the Blue Bulls and Kings Head coach Deon Davids has taken place.

Davids together with Pote Human and former Bulls captain Victor Matfield are the three candidates earmarked for the post vacated by John Mitchell.

Davids was supposed to address the media ahead of Sunday’s Guinness Pro 14 match against Connacht at the Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth, but that task was assigned to assistant coach Chumani Booi.

“Well obviously it has come out in the media. The bulls are talking to him that’s what I can say and we don’t know anything further than that,” explains Booi.

Kings captain JC Astle says the spirit in the camp is high ahead of Sunday’s home game against Connacht.

“For the last two games we have improved but we need to reduce the penalty count, it’s too high. We’re getting too much yellow cards. It’s costing the team at the moment. I think we need to improve in the last 20 minutes. We need to finish games better in the last 20 minutes and we need to cancel out the penalties and yellow cared, hopefully we can pull this through,” says Astle.
