The Democratic Alliance is expected to hold its federal congress in Tshwane next week.

Political analyst Elvis Masoga says the opposition party Democratic Alliance (DA) has taken a wise decision for a position of the party leader not to be contested.

The party holds its federal congress in Tshwane, Gauteng, next weekend.

The position of party leader currently being held by Mmusi Maimane will not be contested except other positions. Masoga says that when a top position is being contested it creates factions within the political parties.

“When you allow a political party top position to be contested you are already creating toxic factions within your organisation. You’ve seen it within the ANC so the Polokwane conference in 2007 that went on to produce COPE out of the ANC. So I think it was wise on the part of the DA members to agree that the position of the national leader who happen to be Mmusi Maimane must not be contested that was a wise political decision on the part of the DA.”
