Dancers get into character for Don Quixote

To truly appreciate the ballet dancer, you need to understand the intense dedication and hours of hard work every day that go into perfecting sequences that seem effortless to the naked eye.
South African Mzansi Ballet (SAMB) showcased their dancers and invited guests for the season premiere of Don Quixote on Friday night (March 8). Opening to a capacity crowd, the company took all their months of training and preparation from the studio and displayed it on stage at the Joburg Theatre.
Multiple curtain calls and standing ovations have greeted Don Quixote performances during the season. The performances this weekend feature some of South Africa’s best ballerina’s. Burnise Silvius as the vivacious Kitri will dance with Cuban Randol Figueredo on Friday and Brazilian Jonathan Rodrigues at the closing performance on Sunday. Shannon Glover will perform on Saturday afternoon with Michael Revie while Angela Maree and Javier Monier will take the lead on Saturday night. Also forming part of the final weekend of Don Quixote and in celebration of the global initiative, TAKE A CHILD TO THE THEATRE TODAY, SAMB together with Joburg Theatre’s Youth Development will host 50 learners from Nkgoli Primary School in Soweto for a day at the theatre on Saturday which will include attending the matinée of Don Quixote.
