The Democratic Alliance (DA) has formally requested to participate in the State Capture inquiry that will be chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

The party has written to Zondo to grant the DA permission to participate.

In a statement released, DA Federal Executive Chairperson James Selfe says the reason for the DA participation in the inquiry is because it has direct interest in the proceedings of the commission as it was one of the three complainants to the Public Protector on the state capture matter in 2016.

Selfe says it was due to the DA’s complaint that the State of Capture report exists.

He says the DA believes that it can make valuable contributions to the commission and shed more light about alleged corruption in government.

He says the DA trusts that Zondo will consider their request adding that they will wait for a favourable response from the Deputy Chief Justice.
