Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says party officials will continue to visit police stations across the country to check whether or not police have enough resources to curb crime.
Maimane was addressing members of the party outside the SA Police Service’s KwaZulu-Natal headquarters in Durban.
They were protesting against the alleged refusal of police to release information to politicians about the status of policing in the province.
Maimane says they will not be intimidated.
“We reject and contempt the letter that was sent to all the police stations saying when MPs and MPL are coming you must chase them away. I am here to say to the provincial commissioner, don’t disregard us we want to work with you, so don’t chase us away,” adds Maimane.
My focus is to build One South Africa for all. This is a nation where we can prosper together. Will not be deterred by a few. We stand united focused on our plan for jobs, for safety in our communities and the eradication of corruption. Forward we march on! pic.twitter.com/wBwjrxkDjv
