The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will take legal steps to have the decision to grant former President Jacob Zuma medical parole reviewed.

The party’s leader John Steenhuisen says they believe the decision is unlawful.

He says they will seek the record of the decision that led to the granting of Zuma’s parole.

DA unhappy with the decision to place Jacob Zuma on medical parole:

Steenhuisen says it has emerged that the National Commissioner of Correctional Services, Arthur Fraser, used his discretion to override the decision of a review panel.

According to Steenhuisen, it is important that the parole process is not manipulated for personal or political gain.

Meanwhile, lobby group AfriForum says it has requested copies of the application for Zuma’s medical parole and the medical report that followed.
