DA slams Gauteng sports dept for overspending

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Gauteng Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation has overspent its budget for public holidays by 54.68% over the past number of years.

This is according to the DA’s Kingsol Chabalala.

He says that while it is acceptable to celebrate public holidays, the administration has no reason to go overboard.

Chabalala says it is very sad and disheartening that in the past five years the ANC spent over R100 million celebrating public holidays.

He says: “This is particularly sad because we have people who do not have houses or running water and we have young people who are unemployed.”

“I think this money should be spent on programmes that will benefit young people.”

“Even if we celebrate public holidays, let’s celebrate them but let’s cut the fancy unnecessary things.”
