The Democratic Alliance (DA) has secured five out of the six Wards contested in the by-elections on Wednesday at Knysna and George in the Southern Cape.

The party won Ward nine and ten in Knysna with 76 % and 67.86 % respectively. However, the party lost a chunk of their support in Ward nine to former Mayor Mark Willemse who stood as an independent candidate.

The Good Party took a Ward from the DA in George, where four Wards were being contested.

DA East region Chairperson Tertius Simmers says, “We share in the joy of Knysna Ward nine and ten residents as well as the George Ward eight, 14 and 17 where we’ve been given a clear mandate for real change and real hope now under the DA banner.”
