Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Democratic Alliance has re-elected John Moodey as the party’s Gauteng leader. He was up against Ghaleb Cachalia at the party’s provincial congress held in Midrand north of Johannesburg on Saturday.

The new Provincial chairperson is Mike Moriarty and his deputy Bongani Nkomo.

The DA Women’s Network chairperson is Suzanne Clarke and her deputy, Stefanie Ueckerman.

In his acceptance speech Moodey thanked people for trusting his leadership.

Meanwhile DA leader Mmusi Maimane has criticised the use of the old South African flag in South Africa.

In October, images of the old South Africa flag were seen on social media during the black Monday protests.

Maimane was addressing delegates at the Gauteng DA Congress in Midrand north of Johannesburg where Moodey was re-elected as the party’s Gauteng leader.

“That flag reminds us of a painful history that divided us. It is not in the interest of South Africa or the advancement of a reconciled country that we must go around in public places and wave that flag.”

“It undermines our goals and sets us looking backwards. I want to build a country where South Africans are united behind this flag, the South African flag. A future for all South Africans, a non-racial South Africa.”
